Step-by-Step Written Pattern

1. Neck Collar

Using US 7 (4.5 mm) 16" circular needles, CO 80 (88, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144) sts. PM for BOR and join in the round.

Work K1, P1 ribbing for 1.5" / 4 cm.

2. Sunburst Cable Yoke (Seamless Top-Down)

Switch to US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles. Place markers every 10 (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) sts to divide into 8 cable sections.

  • Round 1 (Cable Setup): *P2, K4 (Cable Panel), P2, K to next marker; repeat from * around.
  • Round 2 & 3: Work sts as they appear (Knit the knits, Purl the purls).
  • Round 4 (Yoke Cable Increase Rnd): *P1, M1R, P1, C4F, P1, M1L, P1, K to marker; repeat from * around (16 sts increased).

Continue expanding the cable sunburst pattern until Yoke Depth measures 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12)" / 20.5 (21.5, 23, 24, 25.5, 26.5, 28, 29, 30.5) cm.

3. Separating Body & Sleeves

Transfer sleeve sts onto stitch holders.

CO 6 (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22) sts for underarms and join Front and Back sts in the round.

Work straight in cable and textured stitch pattern until body measures 12" / 30.5 cm from underarm.

Switch to US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles, work 1x1 ribbing for 2" / 5 cm. BO loosely.

4. Sleeves (Work Both Alike)

Reattach yarn to sleeve sts, pick up underarm sts. Work in pattern with a central cable line down each arm. Switch to US 7 (4.5 mm) needles for cuff ribbing. Work 1x1 ribbing for 2.5" / 6.5 cm. BO loosely.


Blocking & Finishing Protocol (Merino Wool & Metallic Blend)

  1. Weave in Ends: Secure all ends on the WS.
  2. Steam Blocking: Lay sweater flat on blocking mats. Hold steam iron 2 inches (5 cm) ABOVE fabric without pressing directly. Allow steam to relax merino wool fibers and set sunburst cable lines. Leave to dry completely.
