📖 Step-by-Step Written Pattern

1. Back Panel

Using 4.5 mm needles, cast on 76 (88) sts.

  • Ribbing Rows 1–10: K1, P1 repeat across for 1x1 bottom ribbing (approx. 2 inches / 5 cm).
  • Switch to 5.0 mm needles:
  • Row 1 (RS): Knit all stitches.
  • Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.
  • Continue in St st until back panel measures 21 (23) inches / 53 (58) cm from cast-on edge, ending on a WS row.

Shape Shoulders & Back Neck:

  • Knit 24 (28) sts, join second ball of yarn and bind off center 28 (32) sts for back neck, knit remaining 24 (28) sts.
  • Work 2 more rows in St st on both sides simultaneously. Bind off shoulder sts loosely.

2. Front Panel & V-Neck Shaping

Work bottom ribbing and main body same as Back Panel until piece measures 13 (14) inches / 33 (35) cm from cast-on edge, ending on a WS row.

Separate for V-Neck:

  • Next Row (RS): Knit 38 (44) sts, turn and place remaining 38 (44) sts on holder to work Left Front first.

Left Front V-Neck Decreases:

  • Decrease Row (RS): Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
  • Next Row (WS): Purl all sts.
  • Repeat these 2 rows every RS row 13 (15) times total. (24 [28] shoulder sts remain).
  • Continue straight in St st until Front measures same length as Back to shoulder. Bind off.

Right Front V-Neck Decreases:

  • Rejoin yarn at center V-point on RS for remaining 38 (44) sts.
  • Decrease Row (RS): K1, SSK, knit to end of row.
  • Next Row (WS): Purl all sts.
  • Repeat these 2 rows every RS row 13 (15) times total. (24 [28] shoulder sts remain).
  • Continue straight until Front matches Back length. Bind off.

3. Sleeves (Make 2)

Using 4.5 mm needles, cast on 34 (38) sts.

  • Ribbing Rows 1–12: K1, P1 repeat across for 1x1 cuff ribbing.
  • Switch to 5.0 mm needles:
  • Increase Row (RS): K2, M1, K3 repeat across to last 2 sts, K2. (approx. 44 [50] sts).
  • Continue in St st, increasing 1 st at each end every 8th row 8 times. (60 [66] sts).
  • Work straight until sleeve measures 18 (19) inches / 45 (48) cm from cast-on edge. Bind off loosely.

4. V-Neck Ribbed Band

  1. Seam front and back shoulders together using mattress stitch.

  2. Using 4.5 mm circular needles (or long straights), pick up and knit sts along neck edge as follows:

  3. Pick up 36 (40) sts down Right V-neck.

  4. Place marker at bottom V-point, pick up 1 st at center point.
  5. Pick up 36 (40) sts up Left V-neck.
  6. Pick up 28 (32) sts across Back neck. (101 [113] sts total).
  7. Rnd 1 (1x1 Ribbing): K1, P1 around to 1 st before center V-marker, work S2KP (centered double decrease), continue K1, P1 to end.
  • Repeat Rnd 1 for 5 rounds total to create a crisp mitered V-neck collar.
  • Bind off loosely in pattern.

5. Assembly

  1. Lay sweater flat and pin sleeve tops centered over shoulder seams.
  2. Seam sleeve tops straight across the drop-shoulder edges.
  3. Seam side body seams and sleeve seams down to the cuffs.
  4. Weave in all ends carefully on the inside of the chenille fabric.
